Ryan is a principal geotechnical engineer specializing in transportation projects, and he brings decades of Idaho experience to his role in GeoEngineers’ Boise office. Ryan and his project teams provide geotechnical expertise for earthwork, retaining walls, pavement construction and rehabilitation, and shallow and deep foundations for a wide variety of public and private projects.

In addition to his technical work, Ryan manages projects and collaborates closely with clients and partners. He understands how to work with multidisciplinary teams to find the kind of efficient solutions that large and complex projects require.

“Problem-solving is my favorite part of geotechnical engineering,” Ryan says. “Every client has different goals, and every project site has unique conditions. There’s nothing quite as energizing as sitting in a room full of smart people and working together to find creative solutions to engineering challenges.”

Before joining GeoEngineers in 2024, Ryan spent 23 years at national engineering consulting firms, including 18 years in the Boise market. This extensive experience has given him a deep and nuanced understanding of transportation engineering in the region, and beyond. Joining GeoEngineers was a natural step for Ryan, who was familiar with the firm’s reputation and excited to work with the local staff he already knew.

Outside of work, Ryan enjoys spending quality time with his family and getting outside to hike and bike. His adventurous spirit has led him to national parks like Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Teton, and the Grand Canyon. Along the way, Ryan has tackled some iconic hikes, including Half Dome and walking the Grand Canyon rim to rim.
