Erick is a staff geotechnical engineer in our Seattle office, where he is gaining experience across a wide range of projects. Early in his career, he focuses on contributing to fieldwork and report writing.

“I’m doing a little bit of everything at the moment, and I’m just taking the time to learn from everyone I work with,” Erick explains.

Erick’s interest in geotechnical engineering was sparked by his fascination with natural hazards, particularly earthquakes. The ability to design structures and foundations that can withstand the forces of nature was a major draw to the profession. Before joining GeoEngineers, Erick gained valuable experience in construction management with his hometown’s city government and in bridge inspection, where he inspected more than $400 million worth of state and federally owned infrastructure.

Attracted by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a firm of GeoEngineers’ size, Erick joined the company because he valued the balance of a close-knit team with a broad range of expertise.

“In a smaller firm, your exposure to many kinds of projects might be limited, and in a larger firm, you can get lost in the shuffle. I really like the balance here at GeoEngineers,” he says.

Looking forward, Erick hopes to continue growing with GeoEngineers and find his niche within geotechnical engineering. “I want to find my passion within geotechnical engineering, just like so many of my colleagues have done,” he explains.

Outside of work, Erick enjoys visiting different coffee shops with his partner, taking long walks to explore new places, and going on road trips now that he has his weekends free.

“I’m a big coffee shop guy. My partner and I like to visit a different shop every weekend,” he says.
