Aleksandr is a geo-structural engineer specializing in retaining walls and other structural systems for our construction design group. His work blends traditional structural engineering principles with geotechnical engineering to design and build the many temporary and permanent structures that contractors use during construction.

Aleksandr’s curiosity about engineering and structural design began in childhood. He remembers playing in water channels with a friend and using sand and debris to try to block the water flow.

“Little did I know that we were creating mini earthen dams,” Aleksandr says. “Later on, during my coursework, I found the design of dams and retaining systems to be fascinating, and it all links back to the games I played as a child.”

His early engineering experiments led Aleksandr to pursue an undergraduate and then graduate degree from the University of Washington. After completing his master’s in 2022, Aleksandr launched his career as a structural engineer for a consulting firm in Tacoma, Washington. It wasn’t long before he decided to look for a position that combined his interests in structural and geotechnical engineering.

“The area of focus of my graduate program in college was geotechnical engineering but my professional experience consisted of structural engineering work,” Aleksandr explains. “I wanted to mend the two fields of study since I enjoyed them both, and that heavily influenced me to become a geo-structural engineer for GeoEngineers.”

Aleksandr finds great satisfaction in the challenges and growth opportunities his profession offers. He enjoys expanding his skillset and tackling complex projects, and is looking forward to developing his marine engineering experience and pursuing his Professional Engineer (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE) licenses.

In his spare time, Aleksandr enjoys listening to instrumental music and singing. He stays active by longboarding and hiking, and he enjoys classic video games.

“I’m a Nintendo boy,” Aleksandr says, “and am always ready to get down on some SuperSmash Brothers or Mario Cart.”
