Last month, contractors broke ground on FORUM, a state-of-the-art life science building at 60 Guest Street, Boston. Stan Sadkowski, Pat Malone, and Heidi Cashman are part of an integrated geotechnical, environmental and construction design team for the project, and they were all on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony on September 22. Global real estate investment group and GeoEngineers client Lendlease, Inc. is partnering with Ivanhoe Cambridge to build this nine-story, 350,000-square-foot building in the city’s rapidly growing Boston Landing neighborhood.
Like many urban sites, volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and metals had been found in soil and groundwater at 60 Guest Street in the past, so excavated material had to be carefully tested and characterized before being moved offsite for permitted disposal. GeoEngineers’ environmental scientists and engineers are providing testing and disposal support, construction monitoring, and reporting for the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP).
On the geotechnical side, GeoEngineers is providing a typical suite of design and construction services. The team delivered an exploration plan, lab reports, support of excavation (SOE) design, and foundation and earthwork recommendations. With construction underway, the team is also providing geotechnical and construction monitoring. Visit the Lendlease website for more information about this exciting project.
