King Chin Leads GeoEngineers as Newest CEO

GeoEngineers is pleased to announce that Principal Geotechnical Engineer King Chin begins his term as GeoEngineers’ chief executive officer, effective April 12. Former CEO Mike Hutchinson led the firm through eight years of national growth, and Mr. Chin plans to continue building on GeoEngineers’ strong foundation of technical excellence and down-to-earth people.

“I’m humbled and honored to be selected as GeoEngineers’ CEO,” Mr. Chin said. “GeoEngineers has provided me with the opportunity to grow, personally and professionally, and I want to make sure that future employees will have the same opportunities. I am committed to working with our board and executive leadership team to stay true to the unique values that have made GeoEngineers special. I am excited about the challenges of my new role and believe that our future is bright thanks to the amazing people we have at GeoEngineers.”

Mr. Chin joined GeoEngineers in 1998 as a temporary employee, but his work ethic and rapidly developing technical skills soon brought advancement and success. His early work focused on geotechnical engineering for industrial, marine, and complex urban development projects. Over the years, Mr. Chin has incorporated numerical modeling in his geotechnical practice and expanded GeoEngineers’ seismic analysis capabilities, laying the groundwork for GeoEngineers’ modern suite of performance-based design services.

A promotion to principal in 2014 brought new leadership responsibilities, but Mr. Chin was ready for the challenge. His award-winning numerical modeling and performance-based design work helped to establish these premium services at GeoEngineers, and Mr. Chin led the Performance-Based Design Discipline as it propelled the firm’s growth into new markets. Mr. Chin was elected to GeoEngineers’ Board of Directors in 2016, giving him additional insight into firm governance and leadership.

“We believe King’s passion for our mission, respect for our values, and commitment to our staff will contribute to our overall success,” said Chair of GeoEngineers Board of Directors David Sauls. “He’s dedicated to discipline, financial management, and our strong employee-ownership culture.”
