The Chattanooga Times Free Press recently featured Emily Reed and GeoEngineers as a team began the geotechnical investigation for a long-awaited highway improvement project. The I-75/I-24 split outside of Chattanooga is notorious for causing traffic delays and accidents, and since 2019 the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has been addressing these issues with a sprawling multi-phase interchange redesign. A Times Free Press reporter caught up with Emily while she was managing the geotechnical investigation along I-75, and she was happy to explain her work.
“We’re putting together information for bidders so they can have an accurate depiction of soil conditions,” Emily told the Times Free Press.
In Phase 1 of the project, contractors streamlined traffic design, built new ramps and added additional lanes. Pre-bid work on Phase 2 is wrapping up soon, and GeoEngineers’ report will be the foundation of the project’s next phase. Although GeoEngineers is relatively new to Tennessee, Nashville staff like Emily and Principal Geotechnical Engineer Rick Heckel boast almost 40 years of combined experience in the state. GeoEngineers is proud to continue to partner with TDOT to improve the state’s transportation infrastructure.
