Layne’s business development role at GeoEngineers weaves together his environmental science and commercial real estate experience with his passion for community involvement and desire to connect clients with customized solutions to their business problems.

“I like having a diverse network, putting deals together, connecting people, and understanding marketplace trends and activity,” Layne explains. “It’s all about connecting need to value.”

Two of Layne’s favorite aspects of working at GeoEngineers are its employee-ownership model and the opportunity to work with talented staff throughout the Northwest. He also enjoys putting teams together for client projects and mentoring staff in developing their client and professional networks.

Layne likes staying abreast of what’s happening in the business community through his leadership positions in professional and community organizations. Layne is involved with professional associations dedicated to the commercial real estate industry and building livable communities. He’s been involved with NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Development Association for more than 18 years, serving in a variety of leadership positions for the Washington state chapter. Layne served on the NAIOP National Board of Directors for two terms. He is also involved with the Urban Land Institute Northwest and has assisted the organization with various education programs. Layne was one of 18 business leaders appointed by the Tacoma City Manager to the City of Tacoma Permit Advisory Task Force, a group tasked with improving the city’s policies, codes, and procedures for the issuance of residential and commercial development permits. Layne also serves on the advisory board for the School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Washington Tacoma. While working with these and other community groups, Layne has forged working relationships with many decision-makers in the development market.

Layne cherishes spending time with his wife and their twin sons. He enjoys the outdoors and volunteers his time to stay active with his son’s Boy Scout troop and running teams. He is an avid runner and is pleased that his boys are taking to running, too. In the rare moments when Layne does sit back and put his feet up, he enjoys reading historical biographies and books about business and cultural trends.
