As a staff geotechnical engineer on our Bellingham team, Jacob’s job is all about soil. He is often in the field taking samples, observing construction, and coordinating with contractors. Jacob helps our clients understand soil conditions and how they will affect project goals, whether it’s for a new housing development, roadway improvements, or more complex challenges.
“I went to school to be a civil engineer because I wanted to do something that requires problem-solving and allows you to work outside,” Jacob says. “I quickly learned geotechnical engineering was the perfect overlap of these two things.”
Jacob honed his skills in the lab and field while still pursuing his engineering degree in Colorado. After graduation, he transitioned into a full-time role as a staff engineer at a geotechnical firm in Fort Collins. He enjoyed the chance to learn and grow on the job, but eventually, Jacob and his wife began looking for new opportunities in Bellingham, Washington. Right away, GeoEngineers stood out.
“Throughout the interview process, it became clear that Geo provided a culture of mentorship and growth while delivering a quality product,” Jacob says. “I wanted to be a part of that.”
Outside of his professional life, Jacob makes the most of the natural beauty around him. He enjoys skiing during the winter months—a passion that played a significant role in his decision to move to the Pacific Northwest. When the weather allows, he’s often out hiking or running with his wife Emily, and dog Winston. They also enjoy hanging out at local breweries, especially if there’s a game of cribbage involved!
