Here at GeoEngineers, our hearts are with the devastated communities of Nepal after this weekend’s catastrophic earthquake. Our staff have been sharing resources and ideas of ways that engineers and GIS professionals can lend their talents to help with rescue and recovery efforts. We’re posting those links here for others in the larger geoprofessional community who may want to donate their time and skills to these efforts.
- Help produce maps and data for NGOs and others responding to the earthquake through Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) Earthquake Response.
- Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA) Engineering Service Corps is currently looking for professional EWB-USA members who can provide engineering assistance in one these three categories to support Nepal’s recovery:
- Structural engineers willing to travel to Nepal with ATC-20 (Earthquake Damage Safety Assessment Training) to assess earthquake damage in Nepal as soon as mid-May
- Multidisciplinary engineers willing to travel to Nepal to support ongoing infrastructure-recovery efforts
- Engineers willing to provide technical expertise and counsel (no travel required)
