GeoEngineers provided geotechnical engineering and design, hydrogeologic and construction observation services for the first-place winner, the Swedish Issaquah Medical Center project. The highly energy-efficient, 684,000-square-foot campus houses both inpatient and outpatient medical services, along with emergency services, primary care and a variety of specialists and surgical services.
For the second-place winner, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation campus, GeoEngineers was involved in the project from the very beginning, providing extensive site evaluation, environmental assessment, remediation design and geotechnical engineering services throughout the environmental cleanup, building design and construction phases.
Eighth-place winner, the Bertschi School Living Science Building, was a notable collaboration between Bertschi School and the Restorative Design Collective, a multi-disciplinary team comprised of leading green building professionals from the Pacific Northwest, including GeoEngineers. One of Washington State’s greenest new buildings, the Living Science Building won LEED® Gold certification and is on track to be the first certified Living Building in the state.
According to the DJC, “A total of 7,153 votes were cast during the contest and there was a battle for the top spot between the Swedish project and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation headquarters. A flurry of votes in the final days propelled Swedish past Gates to win by 1,000 votes.” The projects included in the survey were all completed in 2011.
