Along with his geotechnical colleagues at GeoEngineers, Shaun provides engineering design for the “earth” components of projects by evaluating the soil and groundwater loads on a structure and determining how much load the soil can support. In addition to his technical responsibilities, Shaun also has a management role, serving as geotechnical group leader for the north Puget Sound offices. 

Shaun says he really enjoys being outside and getting his hands dirty. “To be an effective geotechnical engineer, you really need to see and feel the soils to understand how they will respond during construction,” he says. “Every project is different and I learn something new every day.”

As a soils specialist, Shaun has a uniqe perspective on sustainability issues in the engineering and constuction industry. He earned a LEED^© AP certification and works closely with architects and contractors to implement sustainable designs, including permeable pavements, use of recycled materials, stormwater infiltration and other low-impact development techniques. “I try to implement sustainable solutions as much as possible, both at work and at home,” he notes. 

In Shaun’s off time, he coaches his son’s youth baseball and football teams, is an avid poker player and enjoys the outdoors.
